Sam Bourton

Dr Sam Bourton has been a Lecturer in Law at the University of the West of England (UWE) since August 2018. She previously held the roles of Associate Lecturer in Law (2016-18) and Assistant Support Lecturer in Law (2014-2016) at UWE.

Sam currently teaches on the Faculty of Business and Law (FBL) Foundation Year on the Introduction to Law in a Social, Business and Global Context module. She also teaches on law undergraduate programmes, with modules including Foundations for Law and the Law of Financial Crime and Regulation. At postgraduate level, she teaches on the International Financial Crime module and supervise dissertation projects. Sam previously taught on the Foundations for Research and Research Methods modules on the LLM Programme.

Sam is the PAL Coordinator for the Foundation Year, all Law Programmes and the Academic Success Centre.

Sam’s research interests lie in the law relating to financial crime, specifically, the law relating to tax evasion and money laundering. She has written several publications and presented several conference papers on these topics. She submitted her doctoral thesis in April 2021, which compares the law and enforcement policies pertaining to tax evasion in the UK and US.
